School Story

I met my husband, Steve, in college (Ashland College) -- we were married in 1968. We bought a house in Bay Village. I worked at a law firm for 8 years and then at an advertising agency for 10 years. I then ran my own graphics business until 1990. My parents lived in Las Vegas and when my mom passed away in 1990, we sold our house and moved to Vegas so my dad wouldn't be by himself. We bought a house out here in 2000. I worked at several law firms, then as Contracts Administrator at the Venetian Hotel and finally at the Review-Journal (our local newspaper) and retired in 2011. My husband proudly served in Vietnam and was a 100% service-connected disabled veteran. Dealing with his health issues from Agent Orange and his combat PTSD has been a full-time job in itself! We were married almost 49 years when Steve passed away over Memorial Day weekend 2017 from Pancreatic Cancer from being in Vietnam. I met Ed Deno in March 2019. We met through the dating site "Our Time" -- his wife passed away 6 months after Steve. He was an MP in the Army for 8 years and is also a Vietnam Veteran. I don't know what I'd do without him at this point in my life (especially during the Covid thing)! We finally got married December 5, 2023, at the Elvis Chapel here in Vegas. Unfortunately, Ed passed away suddenly on 1/15/26, also from Agent Orange exposure. I sold my house and moved into a senior community condo where I won't feel so alone. I miss my friends and family in Ohio, but I love waking up every morning to sunny days!

I was kinda wondering if we are having a 60th class reunion. It's supposedly the weekend of September 11th, but I haven't heard or seen anything official here! I've already booked my flight, rental car and hotel stay, so I'll be coming to Ohio regardless (since I have grandchildren and tons of friends to visit) -- I just wanted to make sure whether or not it's a rumor or for real.

Just thought I would post something on here to show what a SMALL world we live in! This past Tuesday night at our community clubhouse we had Taco Tuesday to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. A man named Phil (didn't get his last name) sat beside me and as the whole table was talking, he mentioned something about Ohio and that he had attended Ohio State. I said that I grew up in Ohio and he said "Wow, really? I used to live in Rocky River." I said, "Oh my God, that's where I grew up!!!" UNBELIEVABLE!! I couldn't believe how much we had in common!! Unfortunately, he has a girlfriend -- oh well! I'm hoping to run into him again, because I would really like to ask him when he lived in River and what street he lived on!

I met a couple of my friends for lunch yesterday at Red Lobster and while I was driving there from my "new" condo, I saw a place I had never noticed before. It was a restaurant called "RIVER ROCK PIZZA"!! It actually made me smile and I wondered if the owner might just be from Ohio!

First and foremost, I want to thank you all for your thoughts and prayers regarding the sudden passing of my husband, Ed. We met in March 2019, but didn't get married until December 2023. This is an extremely difficult time for me since I really thought we had so much more time together. I lost my first husband of 49 years, Steve, over Memorial Day weekend of 2017 and Ed's wife passed in November that same year. Both Steve and Ed were Vietnam Veterans -- Steve's unit was 1st Cavalry and was portrayed in the movie "We Were Soldiers" starring Mel Gibson, and Ed was in the Army for 8 years as an MP and also served on river patrol boats, hence his nickname throughout life of "PBR Trooper." I have now lost TWO husbands to that horrible and senseless war and watched them both suffer from the latent effects of Agent Orange poisoning! Ed always said that his one job was to make me laugh every day and he definitely excelled at it. I sold my house here in Vegas (where I've lived for the past 32 years) and I now have about 3 more weeks to find another place to live. I'm hoping to move into an independent living senior community (hopefully Sun City Summerlin), and I'm waiting to see if my application is approved. My 2 little dogs, Angel and Charlie, are the main reason I get up every morning -- thank God for them! Anyway, thanks again -- you guys are part of the best class ever!

Thought I would give you all a quick update on Chuck Ingelfield's wife, Kim. She finally came home on Thursday, February 5, more than 3 months after her heart surgery and subsequent stroke that left her without movement on her left side. After intensive physical therapy and caring friends' and family's prayers, Kim was able to retun home to Chuck and their little dog, Benny. This is what Chuck wrote on their "Caring Bridge" website on Friday:

"Thank you all for your care, concern, and love over the past 95 days of this tough adventure. Aside from Kim’s hard-earned recovery, we have been most appreciative—and deeply aware—of how blessed we are to have you as friends (and relatives!).

I am certain we have set a CaringBridge record of 13,662 visits 🏅… so far!

Kim is home now and settling into her largely modified house, which will accommodate her “temporary” 🙏 impairment. We look forward to upcoming in-home nursing and physical therapy, as well as her treatment at the Cleveland Clinic Clinical Trial program—the cutting edge of technology. Stay tuned!"
Chuck

Thank you fellow classmates for your kind thoughts and prayers for my husband, Ed. I am pretty devastated that I lost him last week on January 15. I didn't have him very long - we met in 2019 and only got married 2 years ago, but I pray that our memories together will give me strength to get through my grief. This is the second husband that I've lost to Agent Orange exposure in Vietnam. I just can't believe I'm a widow AGAIN and all alone in my house - it's kind of overwhelming to try to deal with everything. Thank God I have Ed's and my two little dogs! They keep me going and I don't know what I would do without them.

One more update from Chuck Inglefield concerning his wife Kim. This is from Thursday, December 18th. Kim is now in the Cleveland Clinic Rehab in Avon. They are doing intensive physical therapy so she can regain mobility on her left side:

Hello folks! Another wonderful day for Kim. I had the joy of witnessing her walking not only with a walker, but also with a cane—an incredible milestone and a testament to how hard she’s working.

On another note, Kim truly loves visitors and has been so uplifted by the amazing support from friends and family. In fact, she may be setting a record for number of visitors! Because of this, the rehab team has asked that visits ideally take place after 5:00 PM, as daytime visits can occasionally interfere with scheduled therapies for Kim and other patients. Visiting hours are still officially from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, but evenings are strongly preferred.

Please let me know when you plan to visit by calling me (216-374-6401). Thank you all so much for your love, encouragement, and understanding—it truly means the world to Kim.

A bit of a setback from Chuck, but your thoughts and continued prayers are really appreciated:

"Happy Monday Kim “fans”! Chuck here. We sure hope it is a less confusing and frustrating day than yesterday for sweet Kim and us!

It began with a phone call from sister-in -law, Marcia who is often a 6:00am visitor. She explained that the staff at the Avon Cleveland Clinic’s Rehab Center feared the potential onset of a heart attack as her heart rate was very elevated. They rushed her to the ER at St. John’s Hospital where cardiac care exceeds that of the rehab’s facility…she had some tests done and medication administered to reduce the heart rate. Thankfully, she did not have a heart attack and her heart rate became controlled- all of her other vitals are good as well. Yesterday evening, she went to a hospital room at St. John’s, but the goal is to transfer her to Fairview Hospital as soon as a bed opens up and to where her cardiac team is. Then upon their approval, she will go back to the Rehab Center in Avon. She is becoming a “Million Mile” again! On another note, she had some pain in her left arm and left leg, which is actually a good thing…her nerves are waking up more and more on the left side. Her speech, memory and sense of humor continue to be great.

She loves visitors, so we will be sure to update you as to where she will be in the next coming days. Thanks for the continued love and support!"

Here is another update from Chuck from Friday, 11/28:

Hello! Chuck writing:

It has been 29 days in the Hospital for poor Sweet Kim.

She was first admitted October 31st for pre-surgery monitoring to ensure that her AFIB was in control by hospital medication. Prior to the November 6th Open Heart surgery.

It was reported that the surgery was successful in accomplishing the goal of repairing one leaking valve, and replacing the other.

Something during surgery caused 9 days of a post surgery Coma-like state. The balance of her stay so far has been efforts to return to normal. Her cognitive capacities are now close to perfect! But, sadly her left side is basically paralyzed.

It breaks my heart when she begs me to take her home.

Because of the need for intensive Physical Therapy, that trip home is a long way off.

PLEASE don’t give up, and quit praying for this wonderful lady!💔🙏🙏
